Human Material

All human samples are collected under the appropriate IRB approval with appropriate donor consents in place.  Normal human material is collected from stringently screened donors at registered donor centres. The donors must test negative for RPR, HIV 1, HIV 2, Hepatitis B Surface Antigen, HCV and HIV 1-Ag using approved methodology. The donors must have normal ALT levels. Qualifying donors are also subject to a physical examination and verbal screening. We have collection centres in the USA, India and Europe offering normal and disease state samples.

Animal Material

LSG animal-derived products are typically sourced from laboratory animals bred under controlled conditions. Our animal material is collected in the UK (unless stated) and harvested from animals in fully registered facilities under veterinary supervision from an extensive range of animal species and strains. Collections are made from animals that have been fasted and which are drug naïve. This results in a high-quality product with minimal batch variation and allows for complete traceability. Material is also available from a large range of agricultural species where animals are classified fit for human connsumption.

Serum

All serum, unless requested otherwise, is collected ‘off clot’ without additives or preservatives. Complement preserved serum and lyophilised complement products are also available

Plasma and Whole Blood

This material is prepared with the anticoagulant of choice. Standard anticoagulants are: ACD, Sodium EDTA, CTAD, Lithium Heparin, Sodium Citrate, Potassium EDTA (K2 or K3), Sodium Heparin, Potassium Oxalate/Sodium Fluoride

Tissues

These are collected to customer specification and may be supplied frozen or fresh.

Cell Extractions

Cell extractions are available from human donors and also a wide variety of animal species and can be prepared to individual protocols. These can be supplied fresh, as Buffy Coats or as frozen cell separations. Leukopaks are also available both fresh or cryopreserved

Human Clinical Samples

Human clinical samples include biofluids (blood, urine, saliva, cerebrospinal fluid, semen, sweat, breast milk), tissue biopsies (skin, tumour, muscle, organ samples) and cells (e.g., buffy coat, PBMCs) collected for diagnosis or research. Samples are gathered through non-invasive means (saliva, urine), swabs (nasal, throat, vaginal), or procedures like venipuncture, lumbar puncture, or surgical excision. All samples are collected from registered facilities and fully consented donors, ensuring full understanding on how samples will be stored, used and disposed of. Samples may be collected from normal healthy donors or donors diagnosed with a specific disease state.

In addition to a large range of blood products LSG can also supply tissues and bodily fluids. Presentations for whole tissues or sections include frozen, homogenised and formalin or paraffin fixed. Tissues may also be prepared to specific protocols and whole animal necroscopy is also offered.
