HumaCell is cGMP-grade human serum, converted from pooled human plasma. It is mixed gender and mixed blood type, which makes it a practical, fully human alternative to foetal bovine serum (FBS) for culturing human cells, and a good fit for applications where a specific blood type isn’t needed, such as cryopreservation media.

FAQs

What is converted human serum?

Converted serum is made from human plasma rather than collected directly as serum from clotted whole blood. Pooling plasma from many donors allows large, consistent lots.

Can I use HumaCell instead of FBS?

Yes. HumaCell is a human alternative to FBS for culturing human cells. As with any change of serum, we recommend validating it with your cells first.

How is HumaCell different from human AB serum?

Human AB serum comes only from blood group AB donors. HumaCell is pooled from donors of all blood types, so it suits applications where a specific blood type isn’t required, such as cryopreservation media.

Is HumaCell available heat inactivated or gamma irradiated?

Yes. You can order it heat inactivated, or heat inactivated and gamma irradiated, in 100 mL and 500 mL bottles.

Is regulatory documentation available?

Gamma irradiation viral clearance studies are available to support the submission and registration of work that uses HumaCell. Contact us to request them.

How should HumaCell be stored and shipped?
