CMRL-1066 is a chemically defined cell culture medium, originally developed for culturing mouse L-cells, but it can be used for a wide variety of cell types, including human and monkey cells. It is particularly useful for serum-free cell culture and can also be supplemented with serum for various applications.  It has been used to maintain monolayer growth of permanent cell lines for years without protein supplementation.
